Health Tips- Antibiotic resistance

Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest public health threats in our generation.   When antibiotics lose their power, bacterial infections become harder to treat, leading to higher medical costs, prolonged hospital stays, and increased mortality. Antibiotics are losing their power because of misuse and overuse in humans and animals. Make sure you only take antibiotics if prescribed by a qualified health professional. And once prescribed, complete the treatment days as instructed. Never share antibiotics. No overdose and misuse of antibiotic 🙏😄 Source: World Health Organization

Undermining Gen-Z's demands

The nation witnessed Kathmandu’s skies glowing red, smoke and fire filled the night, burning down carefully selected homes of political leaders and reducing decades of failed politics to ashes   on September 8–9, 2025 (2082 Bhadra 23–24),.   Angry Gen-Z protesters directly targeted the private residences of nation’s top leaders. Their chant was clear and sharp: “Enough! Is Enough”. So-called senior leaders who had repeatedly pushed the nation into crisis were flatly rejected at their very doorsteps. Former prime ministers K. P. Sharma Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Madhav Kumar Nepal, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, and Jhala Nath Khanal were the first to face the fury. They were the leaders who played political musical chairs for decades yet failed to deliver stability.   The protesters’ angry did not stop there. The properties of so-called “second generation” leaders—Gagan Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, Mahesh Basnet, Gokul Baskota, R...

Hami Nepal is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting communities and individuals in need, guided by its motto ‘For the People, By the People’. Its core mission is to assist individuals and communities in need, particularly during emergencies and crises, with a focus on directly connecting donors with recipients, and delivering aid efficiently and transparently. It was set up after the 2015 earthquake, but was formally registered and gained recognition in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hami Nepal is led by 36-year-old civic activist Sudan Gurung, and mentored by renowned ophthalmologist Sanduk Ruit. Gurung started the organisation after he lost his own son in the 2015 earthquake, and now has over hundreds of thousands of members, growing by the hour. With the old guards gone, there is a power vacuum with multiple actors with competing interests to fill it. GenZ’s youth-led activism has brought new energy for political reform. However, its real test begins now — whethe...

Civil Service - in a state of collapse

Civil Service - in a state of collapse The nation’s civil service is heavily criticized for being heavily politicized, leading to a decline in its efficiency, accountability, and ethical standards. This politicization involves in various ways: the dominance of political considerations in recruitment, promotion, and transfer of civil servants undermining the merit-based systems among others. Political connections and affiliations seem to be playing a significant role in the selection and advancement of civil servants, rather than merit and qualifications. This has invited a perception of unfairness and resentment among civil servants, impacting their motivation and morale. The heavily politicization of the civil service has undermined the principle of meritocracy, where promotions and appointments are based on competence and performance. This has resulted in less qualified individuals holding key positions, leading to poor service delivery and a decline in public trust and fostere...

Silent revolution unfolding

Silent revolution unfolding A silent revolution is unfolding across the nation. 568 women were elected as deputy mayors or vice chairs during the 2022 local government elections. They are now challenging long-entrenched gender norms, making executive decisions and ensuring women’s voices are heard where they were once ignored. A major milestone in women’s empowerment has been the leadership of women in the state executive, especially in a traditionally patriarchal society. Bidya Devi Bhandari made history as the first female president of the democratic republic of Nepal and became the twenty-sixth woman globally to hold the position of head of state. Onsari Gharti: From rebel commander to first female Speaker. She made history in 2072 BS, when she became Nepal’s first female Speaker of the Parliament. Sushila Karki: Breaking barriers in the judiciary: She made history as the first woman to serve as Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, a position she held after a remarkable ...

Goma Shrestha: An exemplary girl student

Goma Shrestha moved to Bhaktapur from Khanyapani, Ramechhap with her parents at the age of four due to the family’s poor financial condition. After arriving in Bhaktapur, her father started working in a brick kiln and enrolled Goma in the nearby Mahendragram Secondary School. As Goma grew older, she began assisting her parents by working in the brick kiln in the mornings and attending school in the afternoons. She continued this routine almost daily until grade nine. However, in grade ten, she changed her schedule following advice from her parents and teachers to focus more on her studies, especially with the SEE approaching. Despite studying in a community school and achieving 4 GPA, she managed to become one of the 30 best students in Bhaktapur.  I wish her every success in her wish to study medical education and become a doctor. 🙏🙏
