  One of the giants of the Indian movie and music industries has died. Asha Bhosle, who gave voice to hundreds of movie characters as a Bollywood playback singer, died of cardiac arrest on Sunday, 13 April, at the age of 92. Her voice had an infectious quality that kept fans on their feet, dancing and singing along, ensuring that her music became the soundtrack to generations. While Asha earned her reputation singing the roles of virtuous heroines, she specialized in saucier characters, such as in one of her most famous songs, "Dum Maro Dum." By Bhosle's own estimation, she recorded around 12,000 songs over a career that spanned about eight decades. She even has sung some Nepali songs winning the heart of millions of Nepali people. We pray Almighty Lord for her heavenly abode and our deepest condolences to her bereaved family.🙏🙏

  Outgoing Prime Minister Sushila Karki appeared pleased while handing over power to the newly appointed Prime Minister Balen Shah . Sushila looked happy during the power transfer ceremony, between her and Balen, after Balen taking the oath of office and secrecy at the President's official residence, Shital Niwas. During the occasion, she, embracing  Balen, congratulated and wished him well and success. Balen Shah was sworn in as Nepal's youngest Prime Minister on March 27, 2026, at the age of 35, following a landslide victory by his Rastriya Swatantra Party ( RSP ). He was, taking the advantage of widespread public anger against corruption and nepotism   after a violent Gen-Z-led uprising ,  able to lure voters towards him and the party, securing 182 out of 275 seats, almost two third majority in the history of national politics.

  Snake rescuer Budi Purwanto runs a shelter for rescued pythons. He saved the record-breaking snake Ibu Baron , a name which means "The Baroness," and is currently caring for her. Nothing could have prepared Radu Frentiu for meeting the snake known as Ibu Baron, which means "The Baroness" in Indonesian. “I had never seen a snake this big,” says Frentiu. “This snake could easily swallow at least a calf, if not an adult cow.” Frentiu, an explorer and natural history photographer who has lived in Bali, Indonesia , for two decades, has encountered his share of big snakes. But Ibu Baron deserved a record-breaking distinction. Guinness World Records recently confirmed that Ibu Baron, a reticulated python ( Malayopython reticulatus ), is believed to be the longest verifiably measured wild snake in the world.   Veteran actor Sunil Thapa passed away at the age of 68 on Sunday, February 7, at Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu , with suspected cardiac arrest. A respected figure in Nepali cinema , who also appeared in Bollywood and Bhojpuri films , was famous for his villainous roles.  He was a towering figure in the Nepali cinema and has appeared in over 300 films. Apart from Nepali films, the actor also made a mark in Bhojpuri and Hindi films. ​ He made his debut in Bollywood movie with Ek Duuje Ke Liye , starring Kamal Haasan and Rati Agnihotri .  He played in over 300 Nepali films and became widely popular for his role as Rate Kaila in Chino. He had won several honours, including the Motion Pictures Award Nepal twice. Sunil played a key supporting role in a Hindi cinema- Mary Kom as   Priyanka Chopra ’s boxing coach Narjit Singh.   Political instability in the nation is caused by a complex mix of deeply rooted internal issues (such as political factionalism , corruption , and governance deficits ) and significant external geopolitical factors involving its large neighbours, India and China . This has resulted in a cycle of short-lived coalition governments and a lack of policy continuity. The primary driver of instability is the deep divide and power struggles within and between numerous political parties. No single prime minister has completed a full five-year term since the restoration of democracy in 1990 , leading to frequent government collapses and a lack of effective governance. Widespread corruption, nepotism , and a lack of accountability among the political elite have eroded public trust in democratic institutions . This frustration was a central trigger for recent youth-led protests in September 2025 .

Balen Shah is a rising young politician and former rapper who is now the 15th mayor of Kathmandu since 2022. He is the first independent candidate to be elected as the mayor of Kathmandu defeating the other party affiliated candidates.     He is a structural engineer with an M.Tech from India , and known for his anti-corruption stance motivating younger generations to serve the nation and people.
