Inviting downfall

Inviting downfall The on-going political rift between the two chairpersons of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is nothing but the tussles of two highly ambitious, egoistic and selfish communist leaders having different political philosophies and principles. They have nothing to do with the national interests and other burning issues and concerns of the common people besides just fulfilling their personal political benefits for their own sake and their coterie, as the political critics opine. I can see and imagine the frustration of the people with the NCP government led by K.P.Oli looking at the sloppy performance of his government. It has completely failed to meet the expectation of the common people who are in dire needs of relief program packages during this Covid 19 pandemic. Looking these days at the group of people coming out to the streets expressing their frustration and anger, it seems that the two chairs and their government are digging holes for their downfalls. I still...

Can the NCP politically survive as one single party?

Can the NCP politically survive as one single party?  The on-going political power struggle between the Nepal Communist Party two chairpersons possessing two different communist principals and ideologies is nothing but their political egos which have surfaced now for their own political interests.   How could it be possible for the second rung leaders and the NCP as a whole to accommodate and hold these two highly ambitious and opportunist chairpersons together? As the political and constitutional experts opine that these two chairpersons agreeing to merge their parties just before the three levels of election held in 2017 was nothing but to fulfil for their personal political benefits. It has been almost three years the NCP has not been able to complete their unification process because of their two different communist principles and ideologies. The political feud at the apex level of the NCP will continue to exist until one of the chairpersons agrees to compromi...

Better split the party and take your own ways

Better split the party and take your own ways I am sure the people might not be surprised to know that the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is on the verge of split as reported in todays (Nov.2/20) The Kathmandu Post. As I have been saying and expressing my concerns for a long time that the two so called communist parties were merged just before the election for their personal political interests and benefits. It has been almost three years; the people have been made fool and were compelled to see their unwanted political drama. With high expectations, people had voted the NCP during the last general elections and gave them the opportunity to form the strongest and powerful government in the political history of Nepal. Instead, the people have been badly betrayed by this NCP government in many ways. Instead of being sincere and accountable to the people, the senior leaders of this party started playing opportunistic and self-centred politics ignoring completely the hardships of ...

Is the government weakening the constitution?

Is the government weakening the constitution? The then seven party alliance had signed 12 point agreement with the then Maoist who had fought almost eleven years , so called people’s war, against the state,. Following this agreement, election of Constitution Assembly (CA) was held to draft the new constitution. However, the first CA failed to fulfil its responsibility and its tenure was extended as the Second Constitution Assembly which drafted the new constitution and had promulgated it in 2015. As a result, three tiers of elections were held. The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) formed just before the elections by merging the then UML and Moist (Centre), won almost two third majority votes and is now running the federal government, six out seven provincial governments and most of the local governments. These governments, however, have failed to meet the expectations of the common people and seem to be engaged in self-centred politics undermining the national and public interests...

Committing genocide?

Committing genocide? The government’s recent decision not to provide costs related to test and treatment of Covid-19 to general public, infected people have stopped visiting health service outlets. This situation will rapidly increase the number of virus infected persons in the coming days. In fact, contact tracing of the infected people in the earlier days was also not effective. Health professionals and experts opine that the government’s decision not to pay for tests and treatment of Covid-19 for the citizens could lead to massive spread of the virus in the community. The people have now stopped visiting the health centres for tests and treatment following the government’s unconstitutional decision. The government seems to be staying away from its constitutional responsibility of providing basic health services and providing free treatment for pandemic diseases to general public. It has even disrespected Supreme Court’s recent directives asking it to provide free health ...

No desire to become prime minister

No desire to become prime minister While I was going through the Kathmandu Post of various dates,  I noticed an interesting article by Anil Giri published on February 14, 2020 about Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda, Chairperson of Nepal Communist Party (CPM), I could not resist myself for sharing in my blog for my regular readers. Without elaborating this article, I decided to summarize only the main events which are included in Anil Giri’s article.   The chairman has an identity crisis Pushpa Kamal Dahal is torn between his two selves: an insidious, crafty Prachanda who will go on the offensive to get what he wants, and a gentle, pragmatic Pushpa Kamal who can placate opposing factions and win over the media. Pushpa Kamal Dahal is a man divided. At the final session of Kantipur Conclave last week, Pushpa Kamal, dressed in a dark suit with a matching topi and a silk tie, appeared relaxed and confident, speaking at length about himself, his journey and his ambi...

Is federalism still suitable for Nepal?

Is federalism still suitable for Nepal? I am and was not against the concept of federalism. I only kept raising my concern whether it was suitable for such a small country considering its geographical structure and available financial and human resources. I still think that there were not held extensive deliberations about this structure among the constitutional experts, intellect individuals and general public before the then seven party alliance decided to adapt and include in the new constitution. As a result, we used to and still hear even some of the leaders of the major political parties were not in favour of implementing federal structure, however, they did not dare to face their bosses. Until now, several laws and acts related to implementation of provincial governments in accordance with the constitution are yet to be tabled in and pass through the House which is the sole constitutional responsibility of the federal government led by the Prime Minister K.P.Oli who is...

Who am I? A corrupt politician or a coward citizen

Who am I? A corrupt politician or a coward citizen I am not so sure about others who are hell-bent towards political parties and their leaders, could be for their personal interests and benefits. There were and are some leaders in all the major political parties whom I happened to be either their college friends, working friends or relatives. During my college time, I was repeatedly asked and pushed to get involved in the then students union. For some known and unknown reasons, I never wanted to be directly involved in politics. Could be, my subconscious mind did not allow me to step into politics. I see these days some of my politician college friends, working friends and politician relatives enjoying their luxurious life styles. On the other side, I see the majority of the people are struggling to make their both ends meet.   I find myself in between them. If I had joined the politics, I would be nowhere because of my emotional behaviour and lack of insincerity....
