Palestinians have been fighting for independence from Israeli occupation for the last 44 years and it was a bold step and risky step taken by Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas to submit a bid for statehood during the ongoing UN General Assembly (“Palestine submit UN statehood bid” Sept. 25, Page 4). It is clear that Israeli would otherwise continue to defer the long- stalled negotiation with Palestine until US stands firmly behind it.

It is then great to know that Prime Minister Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai has declared

’s commitment to endorse Palestine’s claim for an independent state.

should leave no stone unturned and play a proactive role in the UN to support Palestine in its claim for an independent state.
