Explosive situation

The Himalayan Times
27 January 2012
The coalition government continues to make irresponsible and undemocratic acts one after another undermining the democratic norms and values. Such acts have created unwanted confrontation among the major political parties in the CA who were and are supposed to be cohesively working towards the completion of peace process and drafting of new constitution by the middle of July 2012. Instead, they seem to be entangling in unnecessary verbal wars and blame games creating unhealthy political environment at such a time when they had to be spending their valuable time on timely finishing the twin tasks mandated by the people.

Looking closely at the immoral political acts of senior leaders of major political parties, it seems that the Nepali people, who had blindly supported them during II Jana Andolan, continue to get suffered more and have even more difficult days ahead. Unless, the people themselves realize now and act accordingly to correct the leaders’ past mistakes and come out to the streets to oppose the undemocratic acts of the major political leaders and corrupt ministers of the coalition government, they (people) continued to be suppressed and exploited.

I assume that the majority of the people would dare to come out to the streets and oppose the government’s recent price hikes of petroleum products, double digit inflation and unbearable load shedding. The ongoing political situation is becoming more volatile. Does any one of major political parties want to see the twin tasks not completed by the deadline? Are they thinking to disintegrate the social harmony by creating federal states based on the ethnicity and rule the nation? Would that be the political strategy to create a political vacuum in the country and grab the state power? Will that be feasible? Looking closely at the ongoing political scenario, it cannot be easily ignored.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
