FUEL FRANTIC

The Kathmandu Post
6 January 2012
The acute shortage of petroleum products in the country especially within the Kathmandu valley has hardly hit the mobility of its denizens. (“Fuel crisis linger,” January 5, Page 1). The regular traffic volume has reduced to more than fifty percent during the last four days. The serpentine queues of motorbikes and vehicles in-front of the petrol pumps have been the normal but frustrating sites.

Thanks to the advocates of Consumer Rights Protection Forum for knocking   on the Apex Court’s door for the gross negligence by the government and Nepal Oil Corporation for their irresponsibility. Likewise, the Apex Court deserves appreciation for ordering the concerned to smoothly supply fuel. Until the dirty games of earning commission and corruption are controlled and private organizations are engaged, the monopoly of NOC will continue to remain in place. However, the question of “who is going to control these irregularities” remains unanswered.
