POLITICAL THREAT

 The Himalayan Times
17 February 2012
The people are not surprised to hear from Maoist Chairman Prachanda about embracing another people’s revolt if other parties tried to revive the 1990 constitution while celebrating 17th people’s war at Khulamanch in Kathmandu as reported in “Dahal threatens revolt if 90’s constitution revived’ (THT, February 14, Page one). Was it a threat to the other political parties? Was it a threat to the common people who do not follow them? They (common people) are completely tired and exhausted of hearing about “revolt” in their own name? Other political parties have also been playing deceptive politics in the people’s name. The country is on the verge of becoming a failure state.

It does not seem, looking at the on-going political situation, that the new constitution will be drafted by the deadline. Was it the reason Maoist Supremo publicly telling that they would not abide by the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the termination of Constituent Assembly by July 2012? Was it to practice and impose autocratic system in the name of Republic Nepal? Will it be possible to do so in 21st century? Do the Nepali people so easily accept such system when they were guided to reject King Gyanendra’s autocratic rule during the 2nd Jana Andolan?

Time is running fast for all the major political parties for meeting the dead-line to complete people’s mandated twin tasks. The Maoist led coalition government has completely failed to serve the common people who seemed completely frustrated with the on-going acute load shedding, double digit inflammation, shortages of petroleum products and rampant corruption. Deteriorating law and order situation in the country is quite worrisome. I am sure that the people had not expected such difficult days when they had wholeheartedly or forcefully supported the political parties during the April revolution.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
