WHY NOT THARUHAT?

The ongoing protests and continuous bandhas in Tarai districts have made daily lives of the common people really difficult there. Observing the ego of major political parties, it seems that these incidents will continue for a while.  Why are leaders trying to suppress the voice of the people who are expressing dissatisfactions at their unilateral decision to demarcate the nation into six, and then seven provinces? The top leaders need to take the discontents of the people seriously, and bring the agitated forces on board for talks.

People have been killed each day in the Tarai districts by the security forces in the name of maintaining law and order (“Five protesters killed in police firing” 2 September, Page 1). It is very sad and unfortunate to see the people dying while the new constitution is being drafted. A constitution is a document of compromises. If major political parties can satisfy one group of agitating people from one region by re-delineating the boundaries and creating a new province, then why cannot they do the same for other groups such as the Tharus? They should have involved all the concerned stakeholders while demarcating the boundaries rather than abruptly announcing their six province model. In a democracy, just having a simple majority does not always work. Nepal has been trying to draft a new constitution through the Constituent Assembly for the last eight years. If the major political parties miss this opportunity, their political future will be uncertain.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...

7 Basic Health Tips For Your Better Well-Being #1. Prioritize Sleep The most essential part of staying healthy is getting adequate rest. However, this is not always possible due to factors like shift work or caring for a newborn. Life can be unpredictable, but there is always room for improvement. Many people could benefit from better sleep habits, such as establishing a bedtime routine to signal the brain that it is time to wind down. A consistent sleep plan helps regulate our body’s internal clock , which can lead to more energy throughout the day. #2. Exercise Regularly Many people worry about exercising regularly, usually because they approach it negatively. Too often, people see exercise as a punishment for dissatisfaction with their bodies or guilt over their diet choices. This mindset creates a negative association that hampers consistency. #3. Drink More Water and Fewer Sweet Drinks Many people consume a lot of sodas , sweetened juices, sugary coffee drinks, ...
