Deuba Vs Paudel

Deuba Vs Paudel

It is not surprising to read the news (“Deuba eyes NC leadership as establishment side fragments” THT, 16 February, Page 3) at a time when the NC’s national general convention (NGC) is going to be held in the first week of March 2016. After the sudden and sad demise of Sushil Koirala, NC is left without its chief and struggling to keep the leadership with the establishment which do not seem possible at this time considering its ongoing factional politics. Ram Chandra Paudel has been made as the acting President who proclaims himself as the legitimate candidate for the leadership. However, Prakash Man Singh and Krishna P. Situala are also vying for the post. This situation has made the establishment camp difficult to pick up a single candidate.

It seems now that the Koirala dynastic politics has come to end after Sushil Koirala’s sudden death. There does not seem any body from Koirala family to claim for the party chief position. And, it does not be seem possible also for some time to come. Looking closely at the internal politics of NC, the chances of Deuba faction grabbing the key positions in the Central Working Committee (CWC) seem very high including the position of President. Politics is also a game of opportunity. Many Koirala faction leaders seem to switch their camp and join Deuba camp. If this happens, the NC establishment group will definitely lose their grip on power politics.

However, time has come for the NC as a whole to contemplate its past political activities being the oldest and largest party and act sensibly and responsibly rather than engaging in its factional politics. It has its equal responsibility to implement the new constitution joining hands with the other two big parties. Otherwise, the political environment in Nepal still seems hazy. It is hoped that both the camps will seek compromising power distributions among them to avoid factional politics and become one single largest party in Nepali politics to play constructive politics in the days to come.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
