FUTILE POLITICS

Nepal is still in political transition; this transition should have been completed a long ago without wasting any more time on political and constitutional issues. We should thank the senior leaders of major political parties for their effort in promulgating the new constitution, but, the egoistic politics of some of the senior leaders may render these efforts useless, especially the actions of UML chairperson K.P.Oli (“One last leap of faith” April 27, Page 6).

Recently, the Madhes-based parties agreed to come on board and participate in the local polls following an agreement with the ruling parties. RJP-N says that it will participate in the local polls only after the government amends the constitution. In line with this agreement, the government had promptly tabled the amendment bill, but it was denied by the UML (Government’s election moves irk UML” April 27, Page 1). The ruling, the opposition and the agitating parties are still struggling to reach a consensus on major political issues.

People have not been to elect local representatives for almost 20 years. In the absence of local governing bodies, all the development programmes were not implemented directly affecting the daily lives of local population. Budgets meant for these programmes were grossly misappropriated. The party representative mechanism was a totally fail and heavily engaged in corruption. Time is running out. Hopefully the senior leaders of major political parties set aside their political differences and try to hold the local polls peacefully.

    As long as the domino affect gets the altered version of the story into the public a retraction can be done the next day in a three second time period very few people will hear ending any lawsuit.

Proud to be Gurkhas

King Charles III of the United Kingdom has applauded the formation of King's Gurkha Artillery unit which was formally established in April 2025.   The King was greeted with a 21-gun salute at the venue and offered with a large traditional flower garland around his neck. He observed the parade being organised to celebrate the creation of the Army's first dedicated Gurkha Artillery Unit . Over the next three years, 400 Gurkha personnel will join the unit. He highly praised the decade old enduring and deeply valued relationship between the United Kingdom and Nepal .
