MAKE DEMOCRACY WORK

MAKE DEMOCRACY WORK

It is a known fact that Nepal has experienced much political movements in the last seven decades in the name of restoring democracy. Common people, who were out in the streets, had knowingly and unknowingly listened to the political leaders with the expectation of seeing prosperous nation and better lives. These movements remained to be successful simply in terms of changing the regimes but terribly failed to consolidate the achievements, strengthen democracy and fulfil people’s aspirations. It seems now that the common people were misguided simply to support the political leaders who cleverly created the problems for their own sake. In fact, the people were wrongly motivated or instigated to fight among each other for unwanted problems created by the political parties and their leaders.

So far, it seems that, until now, political leaders of different political parties have used politics to serve their own vestigial interests. It is said that power is intoxicating. For this reason, political leaders continue to play egoistic and self-centred politics. Once they are in the power, they seem to get less bothered about people’s concerns. However, they, pretending to be the champion of democracy and true nationalistic, do not get tired of asking the people to be more vigilant about democracy and nationalism. Nepal was never colonized and always remained to be a sovereign country. Even though, why were the people asked to come out in the streets and support the movement called by the political parties? What did the people get benefited from their sacrifices?

Nonetheless, the people at this time enjoy facilities which no other our past generations has enjoyed. However, majority of the population are still deprived of receiving free education and accessible quality health services, whereas, leaders are being treated in fancy hospitals abroad with government money. Crusader Dr. Govind K.C had to stage multiple fast-unto-deaths against the irresponsible acts of the democratic governments which, in fact, should not have done if the political parties and leaders were sincere and accountable to the people . Having all these said, it is hoped that people will not have to come out in the streets seeking other alternatives in the coming days.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...

Causes and consequences of self-immolation

Self-immolation—the act of setting oneself on fire—is one of the most extreme, painful, and lethal forms of self-harm and suicide. Globally, it represents a profound intersection of psychiatric distress, intense social strain, and political expression. Causes of Self-Immolation: The underlying motivations for self-immolation vary significantly across different regions, cultures, and socioeconomic demographics. ·      Political and Ideological Protest: In Western nations and certain East Asian histories, self-immolation is highly associated with political statement.
