Poor law and order

It seems that maintaining law and order situation in the country has been a challenging job for the government and its concerned authorities, considering the increasing number of heinous crimes carried out by anti-social elements. Common people feel that the government and its concerned authorities have completely failed to nab the culprits and put them behind bars. Culprit(s) of Nirmala Pant’s seven month-old rape and murder case is/ are still at large. Likewise, other culprits involved in other rape and murder cases in different parts of the country are freely roaming around.

Another shocking and dreadful incident occurred in Mithila Municipality of Dhanusha district on February 23. An 11-year old girl was raped before being murdered “Eleven-year old gang-raped before she was burnt alive” (THT, Feb.19, Page 1). As reported, the innocent girl, who could not speak, was burnt to destroy any evidence of rape. Police have arrested one person for his involvement in the incident. It is hoped that similar scenario that had surfaced in Nirmala’s case will not repeat, resulting in the arrest of innocent people and forcing them to confess.

Inability to arrest the real culprits of Nirmala’s murder, Sanam Shakya’s murder and disappearance of 33 Kg gold and other criminal cases has badly tarnished the image of the government and the police force for the last one year. Looking at these terrible incidents it seems the concerned authorities have to be more vigilant and equipped with skilled human resources and equipment to swiftly act and arrest the purpetrators. If not, more and more heinous crimes will continue to take place, putting a big challenge before the police forces in maintaining law and order.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
