Shouldn't they wait for the SC’s verdict

Shouldn't they wait for the SC’s verdict

Following the dissolution of HoR two weeks ago, several protests for and against this PM’s move are frequently being seen in the streets of major cities. Among these groups, PM Oli’s rival comrades Prachand-Nepal group seem to be vigorously attacking and blaming him for this unfortunate political situation in the country and have been untiringly claiming for the restoration of dissolved HoR. They are instigating people to come out to the streets for objecting Oli’s move. In the meantime, so-called civil society groups, artists and other fringe individual groups are also seen in the streets asking Oli to reverse his decision.

The case is under review at the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court. It is not so sure how long the SC will take to give its final verdict. Is it appropriate for Prachanda-Nepal group, main opposition party and the other groups to come out to the streets asking for restoration of dissolved HoR when the case is under discussion at the SC? Are not they supposed to wait for the SC’s final verdict? Who cares? They talk about the constitution on one side and continue to do unconstitutional activities on the other hand.

My concern, as a senior citizen and citizen journalist, is that if the HoR is restored, can Prachand-Nepal faction and other protesting groups guarantee the people that there will be a pro-people government, all the corrupts are put behind bars, existing electoral system is thoroughly reviewed in order to ensure that none of the thugs, mafias, contractors and murderers will be allowed to participate in the election, the plight of ten year long Maoist insurgency victims are addressed, poor and hungry people are fed by the state and so on.  If not, why not they, if they believe in people's democracy, encourage the people to participate in the upcoming elections and let them chose their real representatives rather than instigating them to oppose the elections.

Hearing to continue today on the House dissolution case

KATHMANDU: Hearing on the case of dissolution of House of Representatives is to continue today at the Supreme Court.

Constitutional bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana is scheduled to hear the case. The bench further comprises Justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Tej Bahadur KC, and Anil Kumar Sinha. Supreme Court Justice Hari Krishna Karki had recused himself from the case after two of the petitioners — Senior Advocates Dinesh Tripathi and Shambhu Thapa — pointed out conflict of interest for Karki in the case.

The Chief Justice Rana is expected to designate another justice in today’s bench.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
