Fantastic decision

Finally, PM Oli, also as the chairperson of the UML, decided to suspend Madhav Nepal and Bhim Rawal from the party for the next six months, saying that the suspension period could be shortened or extended depending on their political actions and motives “UML suspends leaders Madhav Nepal, Bhim Rawal for six months” (THT, 30 March, Page 1). If I were asked what actions I would recommend for their anti-party activity, I would say suspend them forever. I really appreciated PM Oli’s move to suspend them for their acts to undermine the statue of the party. They are to be blamed for compelling Oli to dissolve the House and seek a fresh mandate of the people.

Having said this, I have personally nothing to do with the party and its senior leaders. This is just to express my concern and anger, as a senior citizen and a voter, towards their unhealthy and immoral political acts when they were supposed to be concentrating their time and political activities on the wellbeing of the nation and the people during this difficult time of the pandemic. There were other second-rung leaders who also followed Madhav Nepal’s foot-steps undermining the national interest and wishes of the people at a time of need and urgency. It seemed that they cleverly managed to switch their wrong moves and enter into their original shelter. As a result, they were welcomed back and had to face no suspensions.

On the other hand, it was surprising to see Dahal knocking at the Supreme Court’s door, asking it to review its earlier decision to nullify the unification of the then CPM-UML and the CPM- Maoist Centre “Dahal seeks review of verdict quashing unification of UML, Maoist Centre at SC” (THT, 30 March, Page 1). Is it the indication of his frustration towards his future political course?

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
