Stop deceiving voters

Starting an opinion with a negative connotation about our political parties and their leaders may not sound good and palatable, but I think, it is my responsibility, as a citizen journalist, to present the ground reality about the effect of false promises made by the them during the elections and complete failure of fulfilling such promises by their respective governments in the past. I have nothing against political parties having their own political principles and philosophies. However, the way they make rosy and false promises to their voters during the elections should now stop instead become sincere in putting forward relevant, realistic and doable political manifestos and implement them accordingly.

Having said these, it remains to be seen how the major political parties put forward their political manifestos for the upcoming local level election which is just one and half months away. As compared to the previous elections, the awareness level of voters about the past social and political performances of their leaders seems to be high, due to the influence and effect of social media, which might prove costly for them in facing their voters. Time will tell how and who the voters will elect their representatives.

The Nepali Congress leaders are distinctly divided over PM Deuba’s proposal of forming alliance with the other coalition partners “Shekhar's faction in NC continues its protest against Deuba” (THT, March 28, Page 2), thinking that his coalition government might collapse if he loses the confidence of the Prachanda and Madhav Nepal, who are the key players in his government. Kamal Thapa seems to be trying his political luck with a new card without monarchy” Monarchy is not our agenda, says Kamal Thapa” (THT, March 28, Page 2), which some political critics think that could be suicidal for his future political course. Considering the past and on-going political situation, the upcoming local level election will be a litmus test for the future existence of the senior leaders. Time will tell.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...

Proud to be Gurkhas

King Charles III of the United Kingdom has applauded the formation of King's Gurkha Artillery unit which was formally established in April 2025.   The King was greeted with a 21-gun salute at the venue and offered with a large traditional flower garland around his neck. He observed the parade being organised to celebrate the creation of the Army's first dedicated Gurkha Artillery Unit . Over the next three years, 400 Gurkha personnel will join the unit. He highly praised the decade old enduring and deeply valued relationship between the United Kingdom and Nepal . During the event, he met military staff and families and posed for an official portrait with the soldiers.     The King's Gurkha Artillery draws upon a long tradition of Gurkha service in artillery roles and continues a tradition of military service to the UK.
