Political dishonesty

Nepal and its people have experienced several political changes in the last seven decades, called upon by the political leaders of different political parties. Such changes have not significantly brought any notable improvements in the overall national development and living standards of the common people besides benefitting just the leaders themselves, their families and near ones. However, they still continue to cling to power by hook and crook and play unproductive politics that has contributed nation to rely on foreign loans and grants for meeting the operational expenses and development budget, thus tarnishing the national image in the international arena.

This is not to blame them but to make them aware about the nation and people who are suffering immensely from their irresponsible and insensible political acts. The recent immature politically-motivated decision of Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist) to recall four ministers from Deuba-led coalition government and replace them with new faces has drawn wide criticism. Was Madhav Nepal trying to please other CPN (US) leaders to curry their favour? However, Deuba retained them citing their role in the upcoming budget deliberations.

One of the gravest crimes carried out by the then Maoist insurgents 17 years ago that killed 35 local people and 3 off-duty security personnel in the Badarmude bomb blast is still fresh in the minds of victims who have been waiting for truth, justice and reparation for these long years “17 years on, justice still eludes victims of Badarmude” (THT, June 6,, Page 2). Many governments came to power, but none of them have addressed their demands. NEPALI POLITICS

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
