Deceptive politics

Time and again, the senior leaders of the major political parties have been playing dishonest politics with their voters for the last three decades to serve their personal political interests in the name of safeguarding democracy. The first Jana Andolan in 2046/47 B.S called upon by the senior leaders of the major political parties with direct and indirect support of the pro-government leaders of the southern neighbour was successful in ending the partyless Panchayat system. Similarly, the second Jana Andolan in 2062/63 B.S also called upon by the senior leaders of major political parties with direct and indirect political support of pro-government leaders of the southern neighbour was successful in unconstitutionally dethroning the monarch and converting Hindu Kingdom into Federal Republic. NEPALI POLITICS

The people had enthusiastically participated and voted for the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP), formed jointly by the then UML and Maoist Centre, with an almost two-thirds majority in the first general election held in accordance with the new constitution promulgated in 2072 B.S, hoping to see a stable political situation in the country. But owing to the egoistic and self-centered politics of senior leaders of the then NCP, people’s hope of seeing a stable government was totally shattered, resulting in frustration against the major political parties and senior leaders. The recently concluded local level election, where the ruling five-party political alliance had jointly put forward their common candidates in most of the constituencies, instigating the voters to misuse their voting rights to elect their candidates, was totally against the people’s wish.नेपाल कता तिर ?

I have nothing to do with any political party but do have serious concern, as a senior citizen, about the worsening political situation of the country. Why do they continue to deceive their voters by putting forward common candidates and instigate the people to misuse their voting rights? Are they trying to safeguard democracy or making a mockery of democracy? Unless and until the provision of “Right to Reject” system is introduced in the existing voting system, the corrupt and the same old faces will continue to get elected and lead the nation wrongly.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
