A Legend Falls: Remembering Mountaineering Icon Nirmal Purja

The mountaineering world has lost one of its brightest, most unstoppable lights. It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I wish to express my profound grief over the tragic passing of Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja, who lost his life alongside his brave crew in a devastating avalanche on Broad Peak, Pakistan.

To say Nimsdai was a legend is an understatement. He was a force of nature who redefined the absolute limits of human endurance and capability. From shattering world records by climbing all 14 of the world’s highest peaks in just six months, to leading the historic first winter ascent of K2, he showed the world that "nothing is impossible."

More importantly, he brought long-overdue pride, global recognition, and respect to the Nepali climbing and Sherpa community. Nims now rests eternally among the giant peaks he loved and conquered so fiercely. His fearless spirit, boundless energy, and ultimate motto—"Giving up is not in the blood"—will live on forever in the hearts of adventurers and dreamers across the globe.

My deepest thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences go out to his family members, the Elite Exped team, and the loved ones of all the crew members lost in this tragedy.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget. This shows a departure from a decade of political instability toward productive governance. It has included first sovereign AI computing centre, doubling of personal income tax exemption thresholds , 21 percent civil servant sal...
