STOP DOING POLITICAL BLUNDERS

Recently, the former five prime minister had issued a press statement blaming PM Oli as a threat to the constitution and democracy. Is it Oli or they or all of them are equally responsible for creating this scary and unstable political situation in the country? How long they continue to play blame game amidst the COVID-19 pandemic? Why don't they cooperate with the government to tackle this dreadful pandemic rather than blaming it for not doing sufficiently setting their political confrontation aside for the time being. It was and is so sad to see the people dying due to lack of appropriate health delivery service for which they do not seem to be a bit concern. What a shame? As Prachanda recently mentioned, during a press meet, that monarch was far better as compared to the president, time has also come for the other former prime ministers and other senior political leaders to sincerely contemplate their past political blunders and be ready for the political reconciliation for t...

Bleak future of the NC?

The Nepali Congress (NC) has proposed to hold its 14th general convention on September 1-4, nine days after the previously announced dates amid uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The party has to organize its general assembly by mid-September as per the constitutional obligation. The convention is expected to elect new leadership from the central to the local levels.   Sher Bahadur Deuba was elected as the party president for four years during the 13th general convention held in March, 2016, He is again vying for the chair after completing his first four years term. Likewise, there seems to be other senior leaders including Bimalendra Nidhi, who are talking about competing against Deuba for the NC boss. Time has come for the NC’s senior leaders whoever vying for the future president to seriously and sincerely contemplate the party’s   political blunder in the past and to be bold enough to take the NC into its original political principle and philosophy as e...

Implement public health measures rigorously

Considering the possibility of third wave of COVID 19 pandemic in the near future, the World Health Organisation today called upon countries in the WHO South-East Asia Region to scale up and implement public health and social measures rigorously, and boost the accelerated vaccine rollout in a bid to prevent another surge of COVID-19 as more countries have confirmed the prevalence of highly transmissible variants. Nepal is among 11 countries in this region.      More efforts are needed in the coming days to test, trace and isolate the people depending on the seriousness of third wave of COVID 19 variant which is said to be more dangerous. Societal interventions such as physical distancing, hand washing and proper use of masks need to be stringently implemented. These measures should be in full force and for longer periods in the areas where more transmissible variants of concern are reported. Having said all these, Is our government aware of and appropriately prepared fo...

Where are we heading?

The Himalayan Times 17 June 2021 It is unfortunate to see Nepal facing citizenship problems for decades due to the vested interests of the political parties and their upper level leaders who continue to use the citizenship bill for personal political gains.    This time, PM Oli tried to use this bill through an ordinance for his political gain at a time when his government is at risk of losing power. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court (SC) ”Apex court's stay on citizenship ordinance raises questions” (THT, June 12, Page 1) put a break on it, failing his clandestine political move. But, on the other hand, genuine citizens have been barred from getting citizenship because of the SC’s stay order. This bill was one of the demands of the JSP-N before joining the government. Now, it remains to be seen what will happen to its other demands. Will the JSP-N ministers continue to stay in the government even if their demands are not fulfilled? Also, the recent press statem...
