Hami Nepal is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting communities and individuals in need, guided by its motto ‘For the People, By the People’. Its core mission is to assist individuals and communities in need, particularly during emergencies and crises, with a focus on directly connecting donors with recipients, and delivering aid efficiently and transparently. It was set up after the 2015 earthquake, but was formally registered and gained recognition in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hami Nepal is led by 36-year-old civic activist Sudan Gurung, and mentored by renowned ophthalmologist Sanduk Ruit. Gurung started the organisation after he lost his own son in the 2015 earthquake, and now has over hundreds of thousands of members, growing by the hour. Ganga Sonam from Sindhupalchowk district beat four other participants to win the Nepal Idol season 6, which saw Sikkim's Babita Thapamagar winning the second spot. In the grand finale on Sunday evening, Sonam received a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 million. Thapamagar was declared the first runner up. She received a cash prize of Rs. 1 million while the third prize went to Darshana Gandhari. Ganga was a favourite among the viewers for her sweet voice since the beginning of the competition, which was organised by AP1 HD television.

Civil Service - in a state of collapse The nation’s civil service is heavily criticized for being heavily politicized, leading to a decline in its efficiency, accountability, and ethical standards. This politicization involves in various ways: the dominance of political considerations in recruitment, promotion, and transfer of civil servants undermining the merit-based systems among others. Political connections and affiliations seem to be playing a significant role in the selection and advancement of civil servants, rather than merit and qualifications. This has invited a perception of unfairness and resentment among civil servants, impacting their motivation and morale. Goma Shrestha moved to Bhaktapur from Khanyapani, Ramechhap with her parents at the age of four due to the family’s poor financial condition. After arriving in Bhaktapur, her father started working in a brick kiln and enrolled Goma in the nearby Mahendragram Secondary School. As Goma grew older, she began assisting her parents by working in the brick kiln in the mornings and attending school in the afternoons. She continued this routine almost daily until grade nine. However, in grade ten, she changed her schedule following advice from her parents and teachers to focus more on her studies, especially with the SEE approaching. Despite studying in a community school and achieving 4 GPA, she managed to become one of the 30 best students in Bhaktapur.  I wish her every success in her wish to study medical education and become a doctor. 🙏🙏

  Nation on the path of prosperity? A preliminary report published on Thursday has revealed that the total methane gas reserves in western Nepal could reach approximately 430 billion cubic metres, enough to possibly meet the nation's demand for gas for around 50 years. The report, prepared by the China Geological Survey (CGS), presented initial findings from just one of the four targeted wells in Jaljale area of Dailekh district, raising the possibility of the nation tapping into domestic sources of energy. The first drilling operation, launched on May 11, 2021, reached a depth of more than 4,000 metres, revealing an estimated 1.12 billion.
