Either amend the current constitution or revive 2047 constitution

One should not be surprised to learn that the Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to ask the Oli led government to pave the way for the formation of new coalition government under its premiership. That is how the Nepali politics works and has been going on in the same trend for decades. The people have seen and experienced most unproductive politics in their country during the last 15 years. Many unconstitutional moves were taken in the name of the peoples’ movement and 12 points agreement that was taken place in foreign land in between the then seven party alliance and Maoist.

The intra-party feud and the politics for power has been the crux of the national politics rather than for the national interest and the well-being of the common people. The level of institutionalized corruptions during the last fifteen years has been so high branding Nepal as one of the most corrupt countries in the South Asian region. None of the political culprits has been punished rather they have been shielded by the state. I have heard people blaming NC for its role in selling state owned industries in negligible values making thousands of people jobless.
Having said all this, why doesn’t the NC convince other parties to go for the mid-term polls seeking fresh mandate of the people either under its leadership or supporting the Oli led government to hold early election? If the NC takes such bold and decisive actions, it is for sure the people will appreciate its role and might give it a landslide victory. Also, it would be life-long creditable and praiseworthy political move of the NC or whoever forms the next coalition government, to hold referendum on burning issues simultaneously with the elections. Otherwise, holding simply mid-term or early election would not be a favourable political solution considering the growing dissatisfaction of the people in the existing constitution and political structure of the nation.

Another favourable option for the like-minded senior leaders of major political parties would be to take a conciliatory politics by taking bold steps of either amending the current constitution or revive the 2047 constitution that could accommodate the King, all the political parties, nationalists, pro-royalists and other disgruntled forces. Otherwise, sooner or later, the country might plunge into uncontrollable political mess and precarious social disharmony.
