Becoming a failed state?

 Becoming a failed state?

The insensible and irresponsible tug-of-war for political power among the senior leaders of the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was a shameful political act that had made the nation and the people mere spectator for the last two years and finally that came to end after PM Oli was defeated in the HoR yesterday while seeking vote of confidence “PM Oli loses confidence vote” (THT, May 11, Page 1). It was completely unfavourable and deplorable political activities of the so-called major political parties and their leaders at a time when the nation and the people were and are being badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hundreds of people are dying of COVID-19 pandemic due to lack of oxygen and proper medication in both the government and private hospitals. Had the governments sincerely fulfiiled Dr. KC's demands, many innocent lives could be saved.

Dr.Govind KC staged dozen plus fast-onto-death hunger strikes asking all the past and this governments for better and affordable health delivery system at all the provincial  and local levels.

Who are to be blamed for this pathetic situation of the country and the people?

Who are to be blamed for this pathetic situation of the country and the people?

Are not they all equally responsible for this horrific situation? Are they going to learn the lesson in the days to come and lead the nation towards prosperity rather than playing self-centred, opportunistic and irresponsible politics?

What is wrong in our political system? Is it the party’s philosophy or its leaders who play self-centered and unproductive politics? Is it the voters who blindly vote their leaders? Is it the lack of political awareness of the people about the political system? Are the leaders insincere towards their social responsibilities? Are the senior leaders of major political parties foreign agents as blamed by political critics? Is it the existing constitution which is full of loopholes for the leaders to play unconstitutional politics? What is to be done to correct all these flaws and shortcomings in the existing political system in order to make the nation politically stable and prosperous?

Looking at the past performances of these senior leaders, whichever parties form the next government or even if Oli continues to lead the nation makes not much difference to the future of the nation and the people.Time is running out for all the like-minded political actors, nationalists and the sovereign people to come together to seek for a doable and appropriate political structure to take the nation to a new height. Otherwise, the nation is on the verge of becoming a failed state in the hands of selfish, power hungry, incapable and corrupt leaders of the major political parties.

2083/84 budget at a glance

2083/84 budget at a glance The Balen led government , which is almost two-thirds majority government secured in the March 2026 elections , has announced its annual budget 2,124.34 billion on May 29, 2026, as the largest budget in Nepal's history, representing a 25.2 present increase over the revised estimates of the current fiscal year 2082/83.  Most of the financial experts and economic analysts opine that this budget, although optimistic, has broadly, boldly and wisely covered key and major aspects of the national all round development. Huge tax reforms , massive infrastructure allocations, transformative sectoral policies, 7 percent targets on economic growth and inflation capped at 6 per cent are the key aspects of the highly optimistic budget.
